Your words make a difference

As someone who loved Robin Williams' stand up comedy and numerous movies, his quote is not only empowering to any writer and communicator (in any form), but it's something to remember before your next discussion with loved ones, friends, family and colleagues.

Words have impact. Use them carefully. Strike when it's necessary and take a soft, fluffy approach when it's appropriate.

For your career, words can make all the difference between how your colleagues perceive you, which also goes a long way into encouraging promotions. Nobody wants to work with someone who is underserving or underhanded. As long as your character matches what you say, you will get noticed in a positive way.

Is that cash, credit or slavings?

Once upon a time, when i worked in retail i was caught up in the whirlwind that involved trying to balance my part time earnings (while i studied) with my never ending spending. The most important thing in life...

When i have conversations with people that are much older and i believe much wiser than i am i always take their advice very seriously. If for no other reason, the most logical thought process here is that they have many years on me, meaning they have a greater range of experiences and have witnessed much more of what life has to offer - be it the absolute magical moments or those that feel like they can break your spirit. The elderly have survived them all, which means they can share their wisdom simply by sharing their stories. There are vital lessons which can be learned from the events that make up an individual's life history, so i listen intently to all of them. One common thread among any old soul i speak to is the ultimate advice they give regarding life. The opinions on love, career, stress management and happiness all vary but one aspect of life that needs to be valued and looked after is always said to be your health. Perhaps it is because at a tender age it s...
